The results of the present study on rabbit ear artery strips demons-trate that the content of opiate-like substances（OLS）in this tissue measu-red by bioassay is 377.2±118.0 pg per mg of wet tissues and the contentof Leu-enkephalin（Leu-enk）measured by radioimmunoassay is 40.5±6.1pg per mg of wet tissues.By means of the specific actions of naloxone

pronase（a peptidase）and yohimbine（an α

-adrenergic receptor antago-nist）

the effects of OLS on the activities of artery strips and theirpossible action pathways were also investigated.The results indicatethat OLS possess a significant inhibitory effect on the aetivities of arterystrips induced by electrical field stimulation and that this inhibitory ef-fect might be mediated via both pre and post-synaptic pathways.Thepresent study also indicates that prostaglandins（PG）may not be involvedin this inhibitory effect of OLS.
